Frequently Asked Questions:
Will I need to arrange transport from the airport, can you help with that?
We can arrange a transfer for you via ‘Last Minute Travel’. Or if you would like to hire a car, we have negotiated a 5% discount with Rhino Car Hire for Calipso Diving customers. Please contact us for details on how to receive your discount.
Is a taxi sufficient or will I need a car to get around once I am in Lanzarote?
Depends – if you are only diving whilst on holiday and want to stay local in the evenings, you don’t need to hire a car. If you wish to see other parts of interest on the island, then a hire car is necessary if you do not want to book a tour with your Holiday Travel company.
How close to the dive school will I be?
If you are staying within Costa Teguise, the maximum walking distance to the dive school will be approx. 15 minutes as the school is centrally located in the resort area. We do offer pickups for those who need it.
From Puerto del Carmen we are approx. 20 minutes drive – again a pickup service can be organised.
From Playa Blanca we are approx. 40 minutes drive – we can arrange a convenient meet-up point for diving.
Where will I be able to leave my dive gear?
At the dive school, we have a wash and hang facility. We can pick you up from your apartment/hotel on your first day with your dive gear, leave your dive gear with us during your stay and we will drop you off with all your dive gear on your last day to your apartment/hotel.
Will a 5mm wetsuit be warm enough for this time of the year?
Yes, this type of suit is suitable for the whole year round. The dive school uses one-piece 5 mm wetsuits. If you are diving in the winter months, you may wish to bring a rash guard for a bit of extra warmth under your wetsuit.
Do you use A clamps for regulator connection to cylinder values?
We have both facilities of ‘A’ Clamp or DIN.
How much does a full set of scuba diving equipment cost to hire?
A full set of scuba diving equipment hire costs 12 € per day.
Do I need to have a Medical?
To come in line with the BSAC and PADI organisations, Calipso Diving asks each diver to complete a self medical certification form.
However, it is the individual’s responsibility to ensure they have regular dive check-ups with their local G.P. to ensure they are healthy and fit to be diving. If you have any concerns about your health and diving you should consult your local diving doctor.
It is Calipso Diving’s duty to point out to divers, that when signing a self medical certification, should you prove to have a non-declared health problem, you will experience problems with health insurance claims and you would not be covered by the dive school’s insurance.
Those wishing to have a medical certificate from a doctor here in Lanzarote can have one done for 35 €.
Are we able to see Seahorses and Angel shark?
The Angel shark are our winter visitors and they can be seen between end of October to approx. mid April.
Seahorses can generally be seen as long as the waters stay warm and we don’t have any unusual cold streams.
Do you pick up clients from hotels for the dive trips or do I need to make my own way?
If you are staying in Costa Teguise itself, yes we can do a pickup and drop-off.
If you are staying in Puerto del Carmen, we normally pick up on our way back after the morning dive, bring you up to the dive school to register and organise relevant hire of diving equipment and take you off diving. From then on, we will pick you up en route to the scheduled dive site.
For Playa Blanca, we are unable to pick you up as this is the southern most part of the island. However, we are able to meet up half way at a convenient dive site and bring with us the relevant diving equipment you need and take you off for one of our dive excursions.
